Apple Cake Recipe






This great apple cake recipe can be eaten cold or hot with whipped cream

PLAIN APPLE CAKE

½ lb plain flour

2 teasp baking powder

¼ teasp salt

2 tablesp sugar

1 ½ oz margarine

1 egg, beaten with ¼ pint milk

1 oz butter

3 tablesp soft brown sugar

¼ teasp ground cinnamon

1 lb, cooking apples peeled,cored,thinly sliced

Sugar glaze

Chopped nuts

1. Sift together the flour, baking powder salt and sugar. Rub in the margarine.

2. Beat the egg and milk together, and stir into the flour mixture(stir quickly to make a soft dough)

3. Mix the oz butter, sugar and spices, spread this mixture over the base of an oblong tin about 11 x 7 inches and 1 inch deep.

4. Cover the mixture with apple slices. Cover the apple slices with dough, and pat down flat.

5. Bake at 180 deg C ,350 deg F, Gas 4 for about 45 mins or until cake is brown and springy.

6. Brush with the sugar glaze and follow with the nuts.

Serve cold as a cake, although you can also serve it hot with whipped cream.
